CFI releases its investment program for digital infrastructure
On February 12, 2019, the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) released the details of its investment program supporting advanced digital infrastructure for Canadian universities. As part of CFI’s Cyberinfrastructure Initiative, Compute Canada will receive $20 million, including more than $12.5 million for the co-financing of Calcul Québec’s new supercomputer named Béluga, hosted by the École de technologie supérieure in Montréal. The CFI contribution matches the financial support provided by the Government of Québec for this project.

Béluga is part of a network of supercomputers dedicated to research. Preparation of this valuable resource was a collective effort by Calcul Québec’s teams at McGill University, Université de Montréal, Université Laval and Université de Sherbrooke. Located at the École de technologie supérieure, the project was funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Government of Québec and the Fonds de recherche du Québec.
